Course Information

English for Lawyers

A knowledge of  the English legal system and the associated mechanics of legal reasoning is becoming increasingly important for law students in countries other than the United Kingdom.  This course provides an introduction to the legal system and the means to develop the language and analytical skills which form an essential part of legal study.

This course begins by introducing some general features of the English legal system which will provide a solid background.  Therefore this course is designed for Undergraduates studying law, Barristers, Lawyers, Solicitors, Judges who feel the need to improve their own knowledge of the English Language in a short period of time.

The aim of the course is to help them to communicate in their day-to-day legal contacts and commitments. The first part of the course is based on important language points - structural or functional - and reflects areas of the language, which are of particular importance to the understanding of significant concepts in the legal system.

The practical section illustrates the many different aspects in which professional people involved in the application of the Law conduct their legal activities with colleagues and clients.
